Chelsea Joy Handler is a New Jersey native born in Livingston on the 25th of February, 1975. She was one of the six children who were youngest. Handler was the daughter of a car salesman and a housewife. Her mother was a German native who moved to her home in United States in 1958. Cancer of the breast was diagnosed in the year 1989. She died ten year later, after fighting the cancer. Handler was brought up in Reform Judaism by her father, who was Jewish. Handler was raised in a thriving neighborhood and had a happy childhood. She moved in Los Angeles when she was 19 years old, to take on acting. Handler started acting to earn money. Handler started doing stand-up as a full-time comedian when she reached the age of 21. Handler had realized that she is gifted at telling stories. At the beginning of her career Handler began her stand-up career as a member of the Oxygen network all-female cast for the hidden camera/practical-joke reality show on TV called Girls Behaving Poorly. Between 2002 and 2005 the show aired. The host then appeared on various other programs such as Weekends at the D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler began working on The Tonight Show as a correspondent. Her breakthrough came in the year 2006, when she began hosting her show on E! It was named The Chelsea Handler Series. It ran for two seasons. Handler also performed in America on Comedy Central Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour. VH1, Comedy Central Premium Blend and HBO have been able to broadcast her stand-up comic performances. It was announced in 2010 that she would host the MTV Video Music Awards 2010. She became the second woman in history to host the VMA's, following Roseanne Barr.
